Holiday Recipe for Heartburn and Indigestion

Here we go again. The holidays are fast approaching as we madly rush around getting our guest rooms freshened, menu finalized, shopping completed, or making reservations at our favorite restaurant. Regardless of the menu or agenda, the quality of digestion is something we usually don’t include in our planning; hopefully after this, you will.

Chew on this

The work of enzymes is to breakdown food materials into components that are absorbable and produce substances, which assist in emulsifying fats into forms that are absorbed into the blood.

Digestion is initiated as you chew. For example, amylase, an enzyme that breaks down starch, is secreted in the mouth. The digestive process does not begin in the mouth, however, for fats or proteins. Proper, thorough chewing is important in beginning the digestive processes altogether.

Malabsorption in a rich Country

Malabsorption is the inability of the cells to obtain nutrients from foods consumed. This inaction causes loss of caloric value (energy) of foods, vitamins, minerals and fiber—manifesting as cellular deprivation.

Malabsorption occurs as a result of the following:
  • Insufficient time for large food molecules (protein, starch, fat) to be broken down by specific target enzymes.
  • A poorly functioning pancreas, not capable of delivering enough digestive enzymes to the small intestine to break down large molecules—creating minimum or nonexistent nutrient absorption.
  • The development of a condition known as leaky gut syndrome; membrane walls of the intestinal lining become permeable—allowing undigested food to leak into circulation.
Enzymes are the Spark of Life

Everything that lives—human, plant, and animal—requires enzymes. The importance of enzymes is best described by Dr. Anthony Cichoke: "Without enzymes, you’d be pushing up daisies and fertilizing some living plant."

Enzymes are a protein-based substance found in every living cell. They can be likened to the starter in your automobile; they ignite the process into action. The speed, however, is dependent on the amount of power under the hood—a full spectrum of enzymes for specific jobs, working in powerful synchronicity to enhance performance.

It is a misconception that we get enough enzymes from our food sources. When food is cooked, heated or processed, it looses its enzyme content. Other than digestive enzyme supplementation, the only way to get adequate enzymes from your food is to consume a diet that is over 75 percent raw. In addition to enhancing digestion, enzyme benefits include:
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Anti-wrinkle
  • Wound healing
  • Immune stimulator
  • Glucose (blood sugar) balancer
High Loan Costs

According to enzyme specialists, our bodies are not intended to bear the entire burden of digestion. If food is devoid of sufficient enzymes, our body borrows from the bank at a very high rate of interest. A depletion of enzymes causes some foods to be passed through the body undigested. When our body recognizes that, at the current rate of spending (consumption) our enzyme account will be depleted, it will always take measures to preserve life by drawing enough enzyme funds from other reserves to run an organ. In the process of stealing from another source to preserve life, undigested fermented food then becomes a toxin.

A "Sour" Consequence

Another negative effect of low enzyme activity is fermentation. This process is encouraged when the diet contains carbohydrates and sugars that remain in the intestinal tract rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. These unabsorbed substances constitute the most import source of gas in the intestines—a factor contributing to damage of the intestinal walls with serious consequences.

Considering the over-consumption of carbohydrates, sugars, dairy products and processed foods in this country, the breakdown of these substances is essential for digestive health—translating into overall health and longevity. Spark your life with a comprehensive digestive enzyme blend; after all, it’s your quality of life that matters, naturally.
