Publisher's Notes—Vol. 29-3
Dear Reader,
Today many of us are taking proactive steps to become and stay healthy and are moving toward nontoxic cost-effective natural alternatives to assure quality and quantity of life. We understand while chronological age is a given, biological ageing to some degree can be within our control. Also that diet, nutritional supplementation, exercise, attitude, meditation, spirituality and commitment to community are imperative to wellness oriented age management. Our choice of physicians, mode of health care delivery, health food suppliers, the magazines and authors we trust and Web sites we visit are critical. We encourage you to make the totalhealth Information Network approach an active partner on your journey. The network includes a totalhealth magazine subscription, the americanwellnessnetwork.com, totalhealthradio.com, and we are proud to announce an affiliation with ihealthtube.com, which will debut in mid-September. For more information see page 56 in this issue.
Relative to partnering with practitioners who are committed to non-invasive, drug-free, nutrition-based complementary and integrative medical approaches we offer articles by four outstanding medical doctors who are either associate editors or regular contributors to totalhealth magazine.
Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D.’s phone consultation wellness practice, is populated by numerous clients referred by their primary physicians. Her description of, and approach to, unraveling what she describes as the spiral of disease should be required reading. Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D.’s article “The Prevention of Alzheimer’s Edges Ever Closer” informs us there is good news to report, which indicates Alzheimer’s disease may be able to be prevented, or its onset delayed. He also discusses how new and exciting approaches can help you enjoy a lifetime of peak mental performance. Flora Stay, DDS, in her article, “Is There a Battery in Your Mouth?” relates that if you have a gold cap next to an amalgam (sliver/mercury) filling, currents may be generating between them causing tooth pain and other oral cavity problems. Are you aware your body is 60 percent water? After you read Dr. Elson Haas’ article, “Water Water Every Where” I am sure you will have a new respect for and some concerns about the water you consume.
You are what you eat. When we discuss the imperatives of total health management, the first subject we list is diet. Four articles in the issue address the benefits of a healthy diet. In the first, we are pleased to welcome Carol Alt back to the cover of totalhealth to discuss her new book “The Raw 50.” This collection of 50 meals can be made by anyone. They taste great and are free of the laundry list of potentially dangerous additives found in most processed food we regularly consume. Then Ron Rosedale, M.D. continues his series on nutrition and aging. Were you aware that substances from the beehive have been an important asset to our health since humankind appeared on earth? If they are not currently included in your diet, after reading “Health from the Honey Bee” we are sure they will be. The second in Jeffrey M. Smith’s continuing series on genetically engineered foods, raises serious concerns not only for our own safety but literally for the future of all living creatures.
We also present articles on five excellent, diverse nutritional supplements in this issue.
INT100, a derivative of dark bilberry fruit, has been shown in numerous research studies to support vision, have antioxidant properties and protect blood vessels throughout the body.
Ubiquinol CoQ10 has been shown to have increased bioavailability and absorption properties and may deliver increased assimilation of the ingredient into the body.
BioCell Collagen II has been shown to provide significant benefits to individuals experiencing aging skin, joints, and eyes, as well as providing static support function for all body cells.
Thymuskin is a proven preventative treatment for hair loss. Thymus peptides have also been shown to be a successful treatment for the skin disorder lichen sclerosis.
Vitamin D3, over the past few years, has emerged as one of the most well researched nutritional supplements. Everyone agrees on its value to achieving optimum health. While we generally do not run research references in the magazine, page 48 will provide you with a great example of how well many of the supplements we take are valuable.
Thanks to Barbara Howard for her report on the 11th LOHAS Conference and a special thank you to all of you who have expressed your appreciation of the illustrations by Jeff Ham, which appear in each issue of totalhealth.
In good health,
Lyle Hurd, Publisher
