OREGANO—Ancient herb Modern remedy

Wild oregano is a potent medicine that is useful in a wide range of conditions. Most people have used oregano as a food spice, but few people realize that oregano is one of the most powerful of all herbs.

Since ancient times, oregano has been used to treat disease. In fact, ancient civilizations used it more as a medicine than a food. About 3000 BC the Babylonians described wild oregano as a cure for lung, cardiac, and infectious diseases. They also used it for asthma and bronchitis. The ancient Greeks gave oregano its name from organos, which means delight of the mountains. They used it as a medicinal herb, not as a food. The Bible mentions oregano, describing it as a cleansing tonic.

This may be a divine reference to its germ-killing powers. The English used oregano for reversing dozens of diseases. Gerard, the 17th century herbalist, described how an extract of oregano, that is the volatile oil, was a complete cure for head colds, diarrhea, and digestive ailments. It was used for asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia. This indicates that oregano has a prolonged history as an emergency medicine.

In the United States modern research is confirming the universal germicidal power of wild oregano. In their research on germicides, Cornell University researched dozens of herbs. The researchers proved oregano was the most powerful of all natural products, since, incredibly, it killed all tested bacteria. Some 30 different bacteria succumbed to its antiseptic power. FDA research proved that the oil completely destroyed nine pathogens, including staph, E. coli, molds, salmonella, and even pseudomonas, which is notoriously difficult to kill. In fact, the government was so convinced of its utility that it has recommended further research for possible drug development.

Other researchers have documented the anti-fungal power of oil of oregano. Using a highly specialized blend of oregano oils known as Oreganol P73 researchers at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., observed an anti- fungal power greater than certain drugs. Their conclusion was the Oreganol completely cleanses the tissues of fungi, particularly Candida albicans. Further research proved that the oil destroys staph, including drug resistant types.

Studies on bacteria indicate that the potent phenols of oregano oil are responsible for the destruction of the germs’ cell walls. The fact that the oil decimates viruses may explain its growing popularity against colds, flu, and bronchial disorders. Some of the uses of the P73 Oreganol and Oregamax that individuals have found of great benefit include the following:
  • Cough, colds, and flu
  • Earache and sore throat, and cold sores
  • Sinus congestion, hay fever, and allergies
  • Abscessed gums and infected
  • Painful joint aches
  • Fungus and mold infestations
Wild oregano is a spice, but it is also a germ-killer. This is not a medical claim, but this is clearly delineated by the research. Its ability to destroy germs is dependent upon its quality, that certain wild varieties are superior to farm raised. Oreganol P73 is a potent formula proven by major university research to kill germs, including difficult to kill fungi like Candida albicans and human pathogens like staph. The oil will prove to be a savior for the future by offering people an option versus synthetic drugs. Oil of oregano, as well as the crude herb, is a safe substance. It is safe because it is an edible wild spice. The major side effect is an improvement in overall health and well-being.
