Introducing David Getoff As mentioned in the Publisher’s Notes of this issue David Getoff, certified clinical nutritionist, traditional naturopath, educator and lecturer will be joining totalhealth magazine as a frequent contributor. As an introduction to our readers we asked David to respond to the following question regarding his practice.

We asked David: What are some of the greatest problems that consumers face in their quest for improving the health of their families? What suggestions can you make to help address these problems and how do your educational video and audio presentations help to facilitate your long-term goals?

David responded, “The greatest problem is an interesting combination of too much information combined with both inadequate information, contradictory information and all too often a plethora of incorrect information. That reads like a tongue twister, but it is all true. Far too much information for anyone to assimilate in a normal lifetime can easily be found on the web. Due to both unethical researchers, political manipulations, and the “dollar before the facts” policy that is rampant, the consumer is put in an awful position. We are brought up from a young age to put all of our faith in physicians for our health care. This often serves us poorly since this individual has been greatly misled and given substantially biased and often untruthful information during much of their many years of schooling and internship.

With the exception of emergency medicine, where our physicians are exceptionally well qualified to address bone fractures, skin grafts, severe burns, etc., their training is sorely lacking. “Modern” (what a poorly descriptive word) medicine is for the most part a system of suppression, removal and replacement.

A headache or any other pain is simply a symptom of a problem. Either may have numerous causes and yet a painkiller (analgesic medication) is most often prescribed. We are suppressing an undesirable symptom. Somewhat similar to taking a hammer to the overheat light on your dashboard if it lights up, rather than stopping to find out what is causing the problem. When the cause is located and properly addressed, the symptom will go away by itself, especially in a human, since unlike an automobile, our bodies are self healing if given the correct tools.

If someone has cancer, medicine will generally remove the tumor, with no attempt whatsoever to improve the de- ficient immune system, which allowed the cancer to grow. In fact, they will most often use two of the most immune suppressive therapies ever studied, chemotherapy and radiation, to further destroy the already faulty immune system in their quest to KILL more cancer cells, even if they do not think any are left in the body.

A patient with an under active thyroid gland (hypothyroid) will be given a drug to replace the chemicals) that their thyroid gland was supposed to be producing. The idea of supporting this gland with nutrients whose long-term deficiency may have caused the problem, is not even investigated. The idea that detoxifying this organ to see if it will begin to work better or normally, is also not investigated or taught in medical school. If a person has diabetes, medicine either replaces the insulin that the body is not producing with daily doses of supplemental insulin, or uses other drugs to help correct the undesirable symptoms caused by blood sugar dysregulation. In my practice, I rarely have any trouble helping the patient properly regulate their blood sugar (without drugs) after I have taught them the very suppressed principles of a healthy diet. In addition, there are herbs which have been shown to both help regulate blood sugar and to support improvement of pancreatic function with no side effects.

My goal in producing an ever-increasing number of educational videos is twofold. Firstly, I wish to give the public the information needed to begin to address their health problems in a less drug-like manner. Secondly, I want simply to expand people’s general health awareness so they don’t automatically assume the doctor knows best. With all the published medical research on how many lives we lose every year due to “modern” medicine, it is about time the public is made aware of medicines shortcomings. My favorite article on this issue is called “Death by Medicine” and was written by three MD’s and two PhD’s. It is searchable with Google and the main author is Gary Null PhD.

My Web page is www.Naturopath4you.com and all my videos are available from www.ppnf.org.”

For over 15 years, david Getoff has had a full time private practice in San Diego in the fields of Naturopathy and Clinical Nutrition, treating all forms of illness by supporting the body’s inherent ability to heal itself.

For the past 14 years he has been teaching “Attaining Optimal Health in the 21st Century”, a course to help educate the public by dispelling well-known facts that are actually myths, and teaching his students the research that generally is withheld from the public at large. His growing numbers of exceptional educational videos and audio recordings, including this course, are available from the Price Pottenger Nutrition Foundation at www.ppnf.org or 1-800-FOODS4u.
