Eliminating Fibroid Tumors
I would like to tell you about a therapy I have used for fibroid tumors over the years, one I learned from Carlton Fredericks, Ph.D. It is a therapy that has led to the remission of fibroid tumors in countless women and one that is safe and non-toxic.
Fibroid tumors are a condition that conventional medicine does not have a viable therapy for and it can often lead to a recommendation for a needless hysterectomy. Fibroids are a sign of excess proliferative capacity of the uterus, which may not be balanced with sufficient progesterone. The inadequate progesterone is usually a result of a surplus of estrogen. Estrogen dominance syndrome (surplus estrogen) can evolve from natural hormone fluctuations of menopause and from burdening the liver with toxins. The liver is the organ responsible for breaking down estrogen (estradiol and estrone) to a less potent form called estriol. If the liver has impaired detoxifying function from exposure to internal/external toxins, drugs, liver disease or dietary substances, the estrogen to estriol breakdown is impaired. If estrogen is not broken down adequately to estriol, estrogen levels build up, allowing for higher circulating estrogen in the body and in turn increase the risk to fibroid tumors.
The best way to treat fibroids, and the estrogen dominance that can cause it, is with a simple liver supportive therapy:
Recommended diet: higher in protein, low in carbohydrates and free of sugar and stimulants like caffeine. Drink eight glasses of water per day.
Daily supplements, taken with meals:
Phosphatidylcholine 1,000 mg
Inositol 500 mg
Carnitine 1,000 mg
High quality multivitamin 1-2 per day
Ideally this nutritional intervention should be done with the supervision of a healthcare practitioner. This therapy has worked extremely well and fibroid tumors begin to shrink in a matter of months. Increasing the phosphatidylcholine to 2,000 mg per day can make the therapy work faster. Liver supporting herbs like dandelion root and chamomile can also be used. Exercise is also extremely important as this is a great boon to liver health.
I have never seen this therapy fail and have had many happy clients who have experienced their body healing naturally by using this approach. Best of all, this heals the problem by addressing the underlying issue—estrogen dominance. This therapy is excellent for PMS in many women as well.

DESIGNS FOR HEALTH INSTITUTE
The Designs for Health Institute was founded by Robert Crayhon, M.S. in 1989 to help healthcare practitioners implement the latest findings in clinical nutrition. In our newly-expanded research facility in Boulder, Colorado we have a clinic where patients are treated free of charge. This allows us to conduct extensive research on how to use nutritional and botanical medicine in the treatment of a wide range of ailments. We are focusing especially on closed head injury, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and fibromyalgia. Planned for 2001 are a series of clinical trials examining the effectiveness of natural medicine in the management of obesity, diabetes, dementia and a range of other ailments.
The Designs for Health Institute maintains one of the largest and most distinguished scientific advisory boards to help ensure the high quality of its study designs, educational materials and research projects.
