Condition Specific Nutrition

Welcome to this totalhealth special report

Our definition of condition specific nutrition is a nutritional ingredient or supplement that has been identified through accepted research to be efficacious in preventing or prolonging the onset of (or as therapy or co-therapy for) specific health conditions or diseases, as well as restoring the deficient conditions of vital nutrients depleted by a broad spectrum of prescription drugs.

According to Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D., there are over 780,000 deaths a year in the U.S. due to medicine’s effects, making this the number one cause of death, surpassing both heart disease and cancer. By not keeping up with the current knowledge of therapeutic nutrients, many doctors are ensuring that their patients do not get proper care by treating nutrient deficient conditions with harmful drugs. However, the information is readily available. A PubMed search of 50 known nutrients finds almost a half-million studies on these nutrients.

The good news is that each of us has the opportunity to become captain of our own health care team. Being restricted to 8 1/2 to 15 minutes per patient, with prescription drugs as the primary avenue of treatment for most chronic disease, the average physician must be as frustrated as his or her patient with the current state of modern medicine.

With nutritional supplementation being recognized as the imperative to establishing and maintaining optimum health as effective therapy and co-therapy in treating disease and fortifying the immune system against disease, it is being proven as a viable, intelligent alternative to many conventional medical and pharmaceutical therapies.

We are confident that evolving from the 20th century paradigm of reactive, sick care medicine and pharmaceutical intervention to a 21st century proactive, self-managed natural health and wellness paradigm through complementary and alternative medicine, and condition specific nutrition, is no longer just an option but vital to stabilizing and reducing the incidence of chronic disease and controlling health care costs.

In the final analysis, wellness is the only hedge against disease. Each of us must become the researcher, motivator, and cheerleader for our own health care team and, in many instances, for loved ones who are in need of our guidance. Your choice of physicians, mode of health care delivery, reliable nutritional supplement sources, the magazines, authors and catalogues you trust, and Web sites you visit are critical. However, if you make the right choices and commitments, you may not, or (depending on your current state of health) seldom, have to read the two pages of contra indicators accompanying every advertisement for prescription drugs.

The following ten featured condition specific nutritional supplements are an excellent representation of a natural approach to a variety of chronic health problems.

  1. Celadrin
Arthritis, cancer, heart attacks, allergies, bowel disease, Alzheimer’s, and dozens of other conditions all have one thing in common—inflammation. Inflammation, noted by pain, heat, redness and swelling, is the body’s first defense against infection and injury. But when the flames of inflammation run out of control, deadly consequences arise. Celadrin, a blend of special fatty acids, is one of the most effective, natural anti-inflammatories. Both humans and animals have shown remarkable benefits of reduced pain and swelling, increased movement, and reduction of inflammatory factors when using Celadrin.

  2. Colostrum
The cold and flu season is here, and many people are looking for the best way to avoid the inevitable. What most people don’t think about is that they already have a way to fight off bacteria and viruses—their immune system. However, like all biological functions, it must be kept healthy and balanced. Colostrum is ideal for regulating the immune system so that it is prepared for the real challenges your body may soon face.

  3. PepZin GI

  4. PepZin GI® is a unique new dietary supplement product targeting optimum stomach health. PepZin GI is unique for two reasons: first it’s a patented complex of zinc and L-carnosine actually combined together that is chemically and biologically different than a simple mixture of zinc and L-carnosine. Second, PepZin GI has numerous human studies demonstrating its health benefits for stomach support and as a source of zinc.*

  5. Pycnogenol

  6. Pycnogenol® (pic-noj-en-all) is a natural plant extract originating from the bark of the French maritime pine tree that grows on the coast of southwest France. This super-strength antioxidant contains a unique combination of procyanidins, bioflavonoids and organic acids that offer condition-specific nutrition to the cardiovascular system, diabetes care and travel related circumstances like deep vein thrombosis and leg swelling.

  7. CoQ10

  8. CoQ10 is a powerful, fat-soluble, vitamin-like substance found naturally in all forms of animal life. It is synthesized in the membranes of cells in humans and is vital to the production of energy. It is the power plant of the body that is found in most cells, with especially high concentration in the heart, the organ that requires high levels of energy for normal operation. In addition, it is a potent antioxidant, similar to vitamin E. In its pure form, CoQ10 is a yellow-orange, tasteless, crystalline powder.

  9. Cinnulin PF

  10. Cinnulin PF® is a patented water extract from cinnamon containing water soluble compounds that are responsible for increasing insulin sensitivity and maintaining healthy blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Cinnulin PF was developed with the help of Agriculture Research Scientist (ARS) Dr. Richard A. Anderson, through a Creative Research and Development Agreement with the USDA. Dr. Anderson has been researching cinnamon and its effects on blood glucose for nearly 20 years, and his research suggests that the active components in Cinnulin PF may be beneficial for insulin resistance.

  11. SierraSil

  12. Cartilage degradation contributes to the lack of mobility, pain and diminished quality of life—characteristics of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. More than 70 million North Americans are afflicted with some form of arthritis. Unfortunately, there are serious safety concerns associated with many conventional therapeutic approaches to arthritis. As a result, more people are looking for clinically validated, safe and effective natural interventions.
One of the newest and most promising nutritional supplements is SierraSil®, a powerful mineral supplement that has been shown to promote joint mobility.

  13. PS (phosphatidylserine)

  14. PS, or phosphatidylserine (pronounced fos-fa-tiedil-ser-een), is a phospholipid nutrient widely recognized for its clinically proven brain benefits. Clinical studies of PS number more than 20 conducted double-blind, and a total of more than a hundred. They prove PS has benefits for conditions as diverse as age-associated memory impairment and other cognitive problems, such as learning and comprehension, dementia, depression, stress (emotional and physical), and anxiety. Preliminary studies with children indicate that PS can benefit the attention, behavioral, and learning problems that often accompany ADHD.

  15. CORvalenM

  16. CORvalenM™ is the common denominator for all individuals needing to restore cellular energy. As a product extension of CORvalen, a medical food for heart disease patients, it was created to help those suffering from myalgia and chronic fatigue. However, because of the benefits CORvalenM provided to its users, it was also discovered that active individuals could reap the benefits of this natural supplement.

  17. Relora

  18. It’s 11 p.m. and you’re hungry. The conversation in your head begins: “I’m trying to lose weight; why not just go to bed without eating?” “But I’ve followed my diet all day; I deserve a treat.” “I can’t sleep if I’m hungry.” “A bedtime snack tonight won’t hurt, and besides, I choose only fat-free, healthy foods.” What can you do?
