The Virtues of Goat Mineral Whey

was first introduced to the renowned health practitioner, author and teacher, Dr. Bernard Jensen in the 1970s as a guest at his Hidden Valley Health Ranch nestled in the scenic mountainside of Escondido, CA. It was orientation day for my week-long stay to learn and practice the principles for healthy living. Our class experienced first hand a smorgasbord of health delicacies such as raw foods, fresh pressed juices, and organic grains.

Orientation included an early morning tour of Dr. Jensen’s sprawling ranch. As we strolled through the lush acres of organic apricot trees from Hunzaland and experienced the soft terrain of medicinal herbal gardens, a familiar refrain of “Baa baa black sheep” seemed to hum softly in the distance beckoning our attention. Dr. Jensen presented his prized “kids,” namely his Nubian goat herd, a prime ingredient in his rejuvenative healthy diet. Kids? Goats? Had I been missing something? We thought he was digressing to acknowledge his hobby of raising pet goats. Little did we realize that this was Dr. Jensen’s introduction to his favorite sermon on the magic of goat milk and one of its fermented products, goat whey—“one of life’s greatest healing foods.”

Of all the virtues and attributes one can assign to Dr. Jensen’s health legacy, none stands out so prominently as his knowledge and value placed on goat milk and goat whey. Dr. Jensen’s extensive worldwide travels provided him with the opportunity to learn native “secrets” to health and longevity. His exposure to diverse cultures that consumed goat milk and whey as an integral part of their diet provided first hand accounts of goat milk’s benefits and impact on human physiology. Employing his knowledge acquired from his extensive travels, Dr. Jensen maintained his own goat herd for personal and public benefit, including his many ailing patients who converged on his health ranch for health restoration.

Most of us are familiar with fermented milk products such as kefir, buttermilk, and yogurt. But few realize the benefits of adding a simple, dehydrated goat whey concentrate to their daily diet. Doing so assures our bodies of one of nature’s most complete and potent natural food supplements. Since 1928, Mt. Capra has maintained goat herds specifically for providing concentrated goat mineral whey powder to the health industry in a convenient, dehydrated form. Two quarts of liquid whey are dehydrated to produce one tablespoon of Capra Mineral Whey—a nutrient packed concentrate whose sought after minerals hold the key to this “liquid sunshine’s” or “elixir’s” inherent value.

“The Old Man’s Drink”
Goat mineral whey is actually a remnant from cheese making, a pale yellow liquid that is, “nature’s intestinal aid” after casein protein and cream are removed from milk. The virtues of goat milk whey are best depicted in the diets of centenarians in the Balkan regions. “Whey houses” proliferated in Western Europe during the 1800s, drawing in patients with various maladies, from intestinal disorders to arthritis. Turks and Russians reserved their prized “curdled” milk as a regular health beverage for their elders, calling it the “old man’s drink.” The next time your yogurt incubates a little too long or past its designated time, notice the liquid whey begin to form at the top, a concentrated mineral rich “tonic” that is a fine food for “sweetening” the intestines.

Dr. Jensen first introduced Capra Mineral Whey powder as “Whex” to his patients as a nutritional support with multiapplicational, therapeutic benefits for arthritis, allergies, asthma, digestive distress, bowel toxicity, muscular aches and pains, electrolytic replacement, trace mineral support, and as an intestinal aid for feeding friendly bowel flora. A serving of 1-2 tablespoons of Capra Mineral Whey mixed in warm water can be taken multiple times per day, depending on the heath ailment.

The Benefits of Goat Whey Minerals
To modify an old adage, we are not what we eat, but what we digest. The predominant mineral determinant of the stomach is sodium, an electrolyte that is not only critical to digestion, but also a vital component for building blood and preventing intestinal putrefaction. Sodium chloride salt is the donor of the chloride ion in producing the stomach’s hydrochloric acid (critical for protein digestion). Disorders of the stomach can often be traced to inadequate sodium reserves, as can lymphatic and glandular imbalances.

Goat whey is high in natural sodium, “the youth element,” a mineral often maligned instead of recognized for its multiple virtues in maintaining body balance and adrenal function. Maintaining adequate sodium levels is vital to regulating the body’s thermostat. Sodium is also known as the “cooling element” and is particularly critical during summer when sodium is largely excreted through perspiration. Mineral whey heads the list of beverage resources to replenish this needed element. The appreciable amounts of natural sodium found in Capra Mineral Whey distinguishes it from highly processed commercial table salt, which often contains sugar, aluminum, and additional chemicals to prevent caking. Capra Mineral Whey contains natural sodium in concert with a wide spectrum of minerals that provide a whole food matrix as nature intended instead of a chemicalized salt isolate.

An excess or deficiency of any mineral can be problematic, which is why balance is critical for health maintenance. Sodium is vital for maintaining calcium solubility in order to “maintain the suppleness of youth in the joints” and to counteract acidosis. Dr. Jensen referred to sodium as the “anti-stiffness” mineral, having a positive affect on fluidity of the lymph and blood thus reducing atherosclerotic tendencies, calcinosis, and arthritic conditions including bone spurs. Fifty percent of the body’s sodium is found within the bones! Sodium keeps calcium in solution along with another vital electrolyte, potassium.

One doesn't ordinarily look to dairy products for potassium, the “great alkalizer,” but Capra Mineral Whey contains a whopping 884 mg per one ounce serving of this important electrolytic mineral. Potassium affects muscle integrity, protein metabolism, kidney function, water retention (edema), acid/alkaline balance, heart irregularity, and calcium deposition. Capra Mineral Whey has a soothing effect on the gastrointestinal tract, thus avoiding the potassium irritating effects of conventional potassium supplements.

Numerous health icons have noted the significant role of trace minerals in vitamin absorption. Nutrients work in concert within the cell on a metabolic level. Taken in an isolated form, balancing minerals can be complicated. Capra Mineral Whey is an excellent source of both minerals and trace minerals. Taken together in this whole food form, the body can “select out the ones it needs the most and assimilate and use them.” When you consider the full spectrum composition of trace minerals in Capra Mineral Whey, note its inherent calcium “synergists” (including minerals such as boron and copper) that are often “additives” to conventional calcium supplements to enhance absorption. Capra Mineral Whey concentrate preserves nature's recipe in its basic form. No wonder Dr. Jensen commonly reiterated the phrase “nature knows best.” In spite of ample evidence supporting the use of isolated nutritional supplements, they are not replacements for food sources of nutrition but adjuncts to it. It is no wonder that nutritional authorities designate “health foods” such as brewer's yeast, liver, beehive products, green drinks, and Capra Mineral Whey as premiere nutritional supplements.

Closing Thoughts:
With gastrointestinal diseases on the rise, the ongoing battle of the bowel has become chronic. The ever-increasing annual sales of stomach acid neutralizers, laxatives, and stool softeners testify to this. The soaring use of these toxic digestive aids emphasizes the value of accessing a non-toxic, simple, food product that can improve nutrient assimilation, reduce the need for medicines, and relieve aches, pains, and stiffness associated with old age. To put the importance of maintaining adequate mineral support into perspective, just refer to the aforementioned commentary on salt isolates that can be toxic when refined and taken out of their natural matrix.e.g., sodium. It begs the question of how sodium ever received such a bad reputation without disclosing any details of its allegedly toxic legacy. Determining healthy forms of salt is as controversial as distinguishing healthy forms of fat. As research reveals, quality fats are essential to health and well-being.the right kind of fats that is, not hydrogenated, rancid oils.

Hippocrates once stated: “If you want to be well, get yourself a goat and live on the south side of the mountain.” While this& endeavor is not attainable or practical for most of modern civilization, we can still access the benefits of goat mineral whey through the regular ingestion of Capra Mineral Whey. Given Mt. Capra's plethora of minerals and its wealthy history of health benefits, it is worth remembering the words spoken by the physician to the King of Prussia, Dr. Frederick Hoffman, in 1761: “There are few drinks more salutary and better adapted to prevent and cure diseases of the human body than whey.”

Those allergic to bovine milk can often tolerate goat milk (allergenicity is less than 10 percent), especially fresh raw milk whose chemical balance resembles mother's milk. Texas surgeon Dr. William Lee Secor noted dramatic improvement in stomach and intestinal ulcers for patients regularly consuming fresh goat milk. The accompanying table distinguishes goat milk's unique composition and illustrates its superiority as a food for young and elderly alike.
