YOUR TONGUE:
a communicator of health

Most of us have heard of a condition called thrush, generally associated with a painful oral infection in infants. Most people do not consider, however, that the tongue is the “dipstick” of the body. Regardless of age, when a white coating appears on the tongue, it is generally an indicator of a condition known as oral candidiasis caused by overgrowth of the fungal microorganism known as Candida. This white coating is an indicator of an invading microorganism that compromises the immune system and is a major contributing factor in digestive disorders, ADD/ADHD, many forms of depression, chronic fatigue, brain fog and allergies, and generalized immune system disorders, to mention a few.

Candidiasis does occur without other oral symptoms. However, in acute cases with oral manifestations, there is pain and burning in the mouth, throat and many times, a “bad” taste. Everyone has small amounts of this parasitic-type fungus in the mouth, vagina, digestive tract and skin. When the immune system is strong, health-enhancing bacteria prevent the fungus from weakening one’s natural defenses.

However, when we have a weakened immune system from use of antibiotics, or a diet high in carbohydrates and sugars, the fungus is “fed” and subsequently causes the overgrowth of health-depleting bacteria and eventually chronic disorders that are rarely attributed to yeast overgrowth.

What you can do to eliminate yeast overgrowth:
  • Brush the tongue daily, not just the teeth.
  • Limit consumption of carbohydrate foods such as rice, pasta and breads to three to four servings daily (one serving equals 1 slice of bread, or half-cup cooked rice or pasta); these carbs convert to sugar.
  • Stay away from high sugar fruits like bananas, pineapple or any dried fruits. Fruit should be consumed once daily and counted as equivalent to half-cup serving.
  • Drink plenty of purified water.
  • Replace health-enhancing microorganisms in the intestinal tract with multistrain complexes of acidophilus and bifidus (probiotics).
  • Maintain healthy intestinal ecology by performing periodic colon fiber cleanses along with daily fiber supplementation to act as “brushes” of intestinal plaque—just like you have your teeth cleaned to remove dental plaque through prophylaxis.
  • Perform periodic herbal Candida yeast detoxification to assist in not only ridding the body of excessive yeast, but also as a preventive measure so the yeast doesn’t have the opportunity to become a serious health threat.
Detox protocol if tongue is coated:
Perform an herbal cleanse for one month, along with dietary changes, and repeat routine in three months, then follow maintenance protocol.

Detox protocol for maintenance:
Perform an herbal cleanse for two weeks every three months to prevent overgrowth, especially if under stress, taking birth control pills, NSAIDs (like Ibuprofen™) or cortisone drugs.

Note: If taking an antibiotic, it is recommended you perform the protocol for one month, rest a week and repeat.

Caution: For children under age 12, it is suggested that you seek professional assistance.
