EXTERNAL POLLUTION: XENOBIOTICS
Xenobiotics by definition are chemical compounds such as drugs, pesticides, chemicals or carcinogens that are foreign to a living organism. We know it’s impossible to escape exposure to external toxic substances. These substances present themselves from varied sources as polluted water, air, food and substances absorbed through the skin (the largest organ of absorption and detoxification).

We understand the concept of toxic environmental pollution when we hear reports of tragedies such as those of Chernobyl in the former USSR and the subsequent breakdown of the immune system of its victims.

We understand the depth of external pollution when we hear examples like the court case in February 1996, where a judge in Austin, Texas, levied a million dollar penalty against a water company for pollution of a local water system. The case was won with the help of a witness testifying against the company, stating that the water from his faucet caught .re when he placed a candle near it. Yes, these examples are extreme, however, just as extreme are the pollutants we allow to remain in our body, believing “nature will take its course and expel what needs to be expelled”—exemplary examples that ignorance or denial are not bliss.

XENOBIOTIC DETOXIFICATION
A major part of the xenobiotic detoxi.cation actually occurs in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The health-enhancing organisms (probiotics) that inhabit the gut also serve as detoxification mechanisms. An imbalance of beneficial organisms, coupled by xenobiotics from such substances as food preservatives/additives, pesticides, plastics and drugs makes for intestinal pollution that breaks down our natural immune defenses. In order to reduce our body’s total toxic load we must start with reducing the pollution in our gut because of its intimate connection to our liver and eventually the health of our overall immune system.

Many individuals with immune system disorders have been identified as having high levels of residues from drugs, pesticides, food preservatives/ additives, plastics, etc. These dangers have been discussed and reported extensively by renowned environmental physician Dr. Sherry Rogers in her book Detoxify or Die.

A BRIEF SUMMARY:
  • Unmetabolized chemicals are stockpiled in the body, primarily in surface fat because they are hydrocarbons—meaning they are lipid (fat) soluble (stockpiling in fat, like in the brain and cell membranes as those in our intestinal tract).
  • The EPA studies show that 100 percent of human fat biopsies contain styrene residues (plastic wrap and trays for fruits, vegetables, meats, foam coffee cups, Styrofoam, plastics, etc.); dioxins (from food herbicides and paper products); 1, 4-dichlorobenzene (deodorizers, mothballs, sanitizers for furniture and construction textiles, bedding), and much more.

As illustrated above, we continually add to our overall body toxic load and then wonder why we develop autoimmune and inflammatory disorders that weren’t even heard of in our grandparents’ era. Without reducing our toxic load through detoxification and attention to reducing exposures in our lifestyle, we are literally a human time-bomb waiting to be deployed into a state of disease and disorders whose final blow is fatal.

INTERNAL POLLUTION: ENDOTOXINS
Endotoxins by definition—a toxin of internal origin.

Your digestive tract is the key to reducing pollution from within. Your gastrointestinal tract will digest approximately 24,000 pounds of solid food within your lifetime—a literal intestinal chemical processing plant creating what are called “endotoxins” (meaning from within). In addition, the gut lining houses over half of the immune system and half the detoxification system.

SWEEP TO HEALTH
The intestinal human operating system is extraordinary. When provided with the right detoxifying substances, and plenty of water and fiber, it unlocks the body’s ability to process food, separating it into absorbable nutrients in support of body functions, and eliminating waste and harmful microorganisms. To reduce the body’s toxic load, from both environmental and intestinal sources, you must “flush” health-depleting bacteria and plaque. “Flushing” is accomplished by first using a natural colon fiber cleanse to “scrub” the colonic plaque from the walls of the large intestine.

The normal transit time from consumption of food to elimination is estimated to be between 12 and 15 hours. Because the typical standard American diet (SAD) lacks fiber, the transit time can extend to several days, allowing for putrefaction and recirculation of toxic substances—adding to the internal toxic load and several pounds of old fecal matter that becomes colonic internal pollution. An effective fiber cleanse will speed transit time of food through the intestinal region, protecting against internal toxemia (endo-poisoning).

Next, the cleanse must not only be assertive enough to remove plaque but also contain ingredients that will:
  • Provide a prebiotic, a source of fuel for health-enhancing bacteria
  • Naturally stimulate peristalsis, the natural act of rectal muscle movement
  • Provide soluble fiber high in omega 3 and 6, a good source of lignans
  • Act as a soluble dietary fiber, assertive enough for deep cleansing—gentle enough for daily maintenance
  • Serve as a traditional expectorant of mucous
  • Provide herbs known for their ability to reduce inflammation and expel excess fluids (diuretic properties)
  • Soothe upset stomachs and indigestion and prevent gas
  • Eliminate muscle spasms and cramps
  • Inhibit absorption of cholesterol
  • Support proper pHwith alkalizing minerals that also promote colon hydration
  • Provide multiple strains of beneficial microorganisms and active enzymes
  • Contain water and fat-soluble spaonins
  • Gently assist to loosen stools
  • Support liver and gallbladder health

MODERN LIVING, MODERN DISORDERS
Our modern lifestyle, consisting of overprocessed, refined and fast foods, chemical additives, lack of beneficial bacteria, chemical farming and chlorinated water, pesticides and herbicides and overall bad dietary habits are responsible for buildup of mucoid plaque in the colon.

In today’s hurried society, we rarely consume enough fiber to actually ROTOROOTER™ the walls of the colon to remove plaque build-up. This plaque adheres to the colonic walls in layers, creating a warm, dark, moist environment—a perfect breeding ground for bacteria, Candida (yeast) and parasites.

It is estimated that over 63 million Americans are victims of digestive disorders, most of them not considering that a toxic colon contributes to many invisible disorders such as, but not limited to, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, arthritis, multiple chemical sensitivities, immune system disorders, skin disorders and premature aging.

Reversal of these disorders necessitates first detoxifying the body, via the large intestine, in order to reduce the amount of total toxic load and prevent it from damaging the delicate lining of the intestines—eventually leaking through the weakened intestinal walls into other parts of the body.

Because there are intimate connections between our liver, gallbladder and lymphatic system, the toxic load of the colon must be reduced in order for these body systems to perform their task of neutralizing toxins—allowing us to maintain health, defy aging and preserve quality of life.

ADDED BENEFIT OF “BRUSHING OUT” POLLUTANTS
Granted, fiber and cleansing with a fiber product does not solve all our health problems, however, it does prepare a strong foundation in our gut on which to build health. It has also shown the unique power to decrease the re-absorption of bile salts. These substances are needed to digest and emulsify fats and oils for absorption into the intestines. Excessive cholesterol is attributed to an excess of bile salts, hence, cleanses containing fiber bind with bile acids and reduce or prevent the reabsorption of bile acid, derived from the body’s cholesterol. When this occurs, the body receives the order to draw on its cholesterol storage to synthesize more bile acid. This action is what lowers blood (serum) cholesterol levels, another form of pollution.

It is important to remember that when disease sets in, as a result of a body that can no longer neutralize and detoxify harmful substances and plaque, the healing must start from the area that houses most of the immune system— the gut. You are hopefully concerned about doing your part to eliminate external pollution, now take steps to reduce internal pollution, in your body, naturally.
