FIRST INGREDIENT: Balancing the Minerals
It is said that everything in life requires balance, and that especially applies to a healthy digestive system. The digestive system is the operating command center for many other body systems, specifically the body’s electrical system.

In this modern high tech age of fast living and fast food, we experience daily attacks to our digestive system by substances we take for granted.

The brain also stores trace minerals, and it does so in different areas. An abnormal concentration or imbalance among minerals can affect psychological functions, including emotions, memory, perception, learning and behavior.

For instance, distilled water is consumed by millions because they’ve either read or been advised that it’s healthier, without consideration as to long-term implications.

As far back as the 1970s, Paavo Airola, Ph.D., N.D. wrote about the dangers of distilled water when used other than for short periods during cleaning therapies. If used during a fast, or in individuals with disorders that include sensitivities that prevent them from consuming a balanced diet and supplementation routine, consumption of distilled water actually can be dangerous. Distillation causes the water to be free of dissolved minerals and therefore has the ability to quickly absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. However, detoxifying too quickly for someone with a compromised digestive or immune system disorder can be serious because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium. These deficiencies can cause heartbeat irregularities like tachycardia, can manifest as high blood pressure and affect the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and vitamins. It’s also important to note that when one mineral is excessive, it steals from others, therefore causing a chain reaction of deficiencies, especially if water being consumed is devoid of all minerals as in distilled water.

The brain also stores trace minerals and it does so in different areas. An abnormal concentration or imbalance among minerals can affect psychological functions, including emotions, memory, perception, learning and behavior.

Long-term Consequences of pH Imbalance
Consequences of long-term pH imbalance include, but are not limited to:
  • Increase of free radical oxidation
  • Reduction of stamina (physical and mental)
  • Mood disorders (depression, hyperactivity, ADD/ADHD)
  • Reduced athletic performance
  • Reduced activity of friendly intestinal bacteria
  • Impaired immunity
  • Accumulation of toxic substances
  • Weakened connective and soft tissues
  • Disturbed sleep cycles (insomnia, lack of restorative sleep)
  • Decrease in vitamin and mineral absorption.
Are All Mineral Supplements the Same?
No, they are not. In order for a mineral/electrolyte supplement to be effective, first it must be readily absorbable, which is most effective when it is from a food source. The supplementation I prefer is made from goat-milk whey because it:
  • Is most like human milk, therefore tolerated by most individuals intolerant to dairy and other forms of supplementation
  • Is a highly concentrated, alkaline mineral food
  • Benefits weak and painful joints
  • Is soothing and healing to the digestive and intestinal tract
  • Is a natural immune booster
  • Is a highly complex whole food that contains a broad array of more than 20 naturally occurring minerals, which is recognized and utilized by the body with ease
  • Is a food that contains an abundance of potassium, necessary for peak performance, heart health, fatigue, immune deficiencies, muscle integrity and neutralization of acid waste
  • Is a food that contains balanced amounts of sodium, necessary for stomach tissue to be alkaline to withstand hydrochloric acid produced in the stomach. It is sodium that protects the stomach walls from destruction by acid in the tissues
  • Maintains cell membrane integrity as a full compliment of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride and phosphorus) necessary for muscle function, energy, heart activity and pH balance of blood and tissues
  • Is a food product that contains both macro and micro minerals.
What Do Minerals Have to do With Digestive Health?
Everything! Minerals obtained from fresh goat-milk whey have been proven through nutritional analysis to be high in natural amino acids and identical in protein lactoglobulins as serum globulin in human blood. In individuals on a cleansing protocol or with compromised digestive systems, it is especially important to supplement with minerals. Digestive disorders or cleansing protocols deplete the body’s storehouse of minerals, making one more vulnerable to infection, muscle cramps, soft and connective tissue pain and miscommunication of nerve impulses, including those in the gut—home to our second brain.

The electrolytes in goat-milk whey make up the electrically charged ions that help regulate water balance in the body, as well as in the intestines, to facilitate better elimination. Minerals are especially important in digestive health for their ability to balance the acidalkaline levels. This is important because goat-milk mineral whey has the unique ability to have an alkaline reaction, which creates an intestinal environment unfriendly to bacteria, yeast, parasites and viruses; most individuals with digestive disorders are extremely acidic. In addition to the influence minerals have on the lower intestines, they also neutralize stomach acids, allowing for improved digestion and absorption.

SECOND INGREDIENT:
Health-enhancing Bacteria

Researchers are continually amazed about the nature of probiotics. These tiny “warriors” work hard as a defense system, assisting the immune function by warding off unfriendly microorganisms (viruses, health-depleting bacteria and fungi). The human intestinal tract is designed to serve as home to millions of “friendly” (health-enhancing) bacteria. According to Nebraska Cultures Research, “Probiotic refers to those microorganisms which may prevent or reduce the effect of an infection caused by pathogenic organisms. The organisms referred to as probiotics provide beneficial, nutritional and therapeutic properties.”

What Causes Destruction of Health-enhancing Bacteria? Most often, certain prescription medications, specifically antibiotics, kill the “good” and “bad” bacteria in the intestinal tract, leaving us vulnerable to infection and intestinal disorders.

The health-depleting effects of antibiotic therapy can be minimized at least, by supplementing with health-enhancing microorganisms called probiotics.

DID YOU KNOW
According to researchers, there are more bacteria “housed” in one person, at one time, than there are people on earth—a startling realization when you consider most are housed in the intestines!

When antibiotics are consumed and “good” bacteria are not reintroduced, more often than not, some type of infection manifests within six to eight weeks (cold, flu, ear infections, sinusitis, yeast infections, etc.). There are certainly circumstances where antibiotics are necessary and lifesaving. However, it has now come to light that in order for antibiotics not only to be effective for the acute purpose, but also to maintain health, supplementation with probiotics is a must.

My Favorite “Anti-antibiotic”
As a doctor, researcher and recovered victim of a life-threatening digestive disorder, I’m more particular about the type of probiotic I use and recommend. I look for a probiotic that, in my experience, has the qualities to be best tolerated by people who are extremely sensitive to most products, and one in which long-term health can also be maintained.

The following probiotic properties are what I look for:
  • Multiple strain bacteria that have the stability to remain viable in the stomach while en route to the intestinal tract to optimize digestion and immune functions
  • High population count (CFUs)
  • Stable strains of microorganisms
  • Ability to survive stomach acids and the digestive process
  • Ability to form colonies in the intestinal tract, where they aid in nutrient absorption and the establishment of proper pH
  • Ability to implant in varied conditions of intestinal ecology
  • Must thrive in acidic conditions—common in digestive and chronic disorders.
Why Goat-milk Products? Those affected with digestive disorders understand only too well that they need products that are as close to nature as possible to avoid rejection and malabsorption. Goat’s milk is the most like human milk in composition, therefore, it is digested with ease. In order to heal digestive disorders, products are needed that have a “fast transit time,” so that substances don’t “sit around,” ferment and add to the problem. We digest goat-milk in just 20 minutes; conversely, cow’s milk takes two to three hours to digest.

In addition, goat’s milk has the unique qualities of being half-cleansing, half-building, and does not form mucous, a claim not substantiated by cow’s milk and products derived from it.

A Doctor’s Perspective
I believe it is now quite evident, by those that follow my writings and research, that I have a strong conviction regarding the healthenhancing benefits of goat’s milk. Had it not been for my own challenges with digestive disorders, and the benefits I experienced from goat’s milk and products derived from it, I could not write with the same passion. In my practice I consult with hundreds of individuals worldwide who spent a lot of money trying products not only to reestablish their mineral balance but also to repopulate their healthenhancing bacteria after developing digestive disorders. Many of them are so sensitive they cannot consume products without adding to their digestive distress, not to mention the added potential of allergic reactions, as I experienced during my illness. Since goat-milk products are the closest to human-milk, most of the tolerance issues and detoxification challenges to cleanse and remove excessive mucous become nonissues with products derived from fresh goat’s milk.
