Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D.
|
Ralph Moss, Ph.D., who has been educating patients about legitimate and innovative cancer therapies for over 20 years, is recognized worldwide as an authority on conventional, complimentary and alternative cancer treatments.
He is a founding member and long-time advisor in the office of Alternative Medicine (National Institute of Health) and a member of the newly-formed, ground-breaking Cancer Advisory Panel of the National Institute of Health, numerous medical school, association and periodical advisory boards. He is the author of 10 books including Cancer Therapy, Questioning Chemotherapy, The Cancer Industry and Herbs Against Cancer and publisher of The Moss Reports, over 260 comprehensive reports available for a wide range of cancer diagnoses.
In 1977, the then 34-year-old Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. called a press conference in New York City and blew the whistle on Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s suppression of positive results with non-conventional cancer treatments. At the time Moss was assistant director of public affairs at MSKCC. He was fired the next day for “failing to carry out his most basic responsibilities,” as the hospital described it to The New York Times.
When he began working at MSKCC three years earlier, Moss was an idealistic and talented young science writer, proud to be part of Sloan-Kettering and Nixon’s “War On Cancer.” His direct experience at MSKCC with the profit-driven politics that guide cancer research and treatment was a call-to-arms for Moss. He has spent the past two decades dedicated to transforming the cancer field to include an integration of alternative and conventional therapies, fair testing for unorthodox treatments, and medical freedom of choice for cancer patients.
Dr. Moss was one of the founding advisors to the government’s Office of Alternative Medicine (now the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medical Research) and he continues to advise several government offices. The author of 11 groundbreaking books (most recently Antioxidants Against Cancer, January 2000
publication date), he is also the founder and director of CancerDecisions.com and The Moss Reports, information resources on innovative cancer treatments. Dr. Moss plays a unique role in the cancer field as a “roving reporter” who travels the globe investigating non-conventional cancer treatments. His mission: to uncover the truth about therapies that modern oncology has overlooked or dismissed and to find brand new cutting-edge treatments with exciting results. To do this Dr. Moss conducts on-site visits to clinics worldwide, interviews doctors and researchers, studies data (both published and unpublished) and speaks with patients.
Congressman Dan Burton has said, “Dr. Moss has long been known as one of the most informed writers on alternative medicine cancer issues in the world.” Dr. Harold Freeman, the chairman of the President’s Cancer Panel and past national president of the American Cancer Society, calls Moss “a pivotal figure in this country for promoting change and dialogue.” Dr. William Fair of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center concurs that “ . . . Dr. Moss is one of the key figures in the nation in the area of complementary and alternative medicine in cancer.”
It is significant to note that many of Dr. Moss’ ardent supporters are high-ranking representatives of our most conservative cancer institutions. From his courageous confrontation with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to his years as an outspoken gadfly of “the cancer industry” and finally to his development into one of our most influential leaders in the cancer field, Dr. Moss’ remarkable career truly mirrors the country’s changes in relation to alternative medicine over the past two decades. His visionary work positively impacts on the treatment options available to all Americans with cancer.
