James Strohecker

A recognized authority in the field of natural health and a pioneer in delivering health information on the Internet, James Strohecker is co-founder of HealthWorld Online (www.healthy.net), the critically-acclaimed global health Internet network, and NPICenter.com (www.npicenter.com), a global business-to-business network for the natural products industry.
An advocate of a new global medicine based upon wise utilization of traditional systems of healing, Strohecker created HealthWorld Online as a revolutionary vehicle for bringing timeless, life-enhancing but largely hidden natural health knowledge to individuals throughout the world.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate in cultural anthropology, Strohecker has long nurtured a passion to understand the human condition and the spiritual dimension of human evolution. This passion was powerfully awakened while he lived in the jungles amidst the mystery of a vanished civilization as a member of National Geographic archeological expeditions to Mayan ruins in Yucatan in the early 1970s. Soon thereafter he turned down a grant from the prestigious Divinity School at the University of Chicago to spend many years in a pursuit of spiritual knowledge, including three years in India where he engaged in an in-depth study and practice of yoga, meditation and spiritual philosophy. In India he was also introduced to herbal medicine, homeopathy and Ayurvedic medicine. In all, Strohecker has spent more than 25 years investigating and practicing systems of healing and personal transformation.
He believes that the principles of natural health are often a matter of common sense and have been with humanity for millennia. The ancient tradition of yoga—with its emphasis on diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress reduction, personal detoxification and mental cultivation—is really a complete system of holistic health.
An holistic thinker and network builder, Strohecker’s focus for many years revolved around his dream of designing a global database of the leading research and information on natural medicine to help create a “global” medicine that blended ancient healing traditions, spirituality and natural medicine from around the world with the best that scientific western medicine had to offer. This, he felt, could help alleviate suffering caused by the lack of access to information on natural health and other viable alternatives to institutionalized
conventional medical approaches.
The Internet with it’s inherent capability for cataloging, linking and transmitting information across the planet at the speed of light, was the technology that made Strohecker’s vision something more than an impossible dream. HealthWorld Online has become the vehicle for creating the ultimate accessible resource of accurate and reliable natural health information.
A recognized authority on natural healthcare, Strohecker was executive editor of Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide, a book that has become the standard for natural health information, assembling the prestigious international team of 400 contributing health professionals and scientists. He has coauthored or collaborated on more than a dozen books on natural health, wellness, creativity and human potential, including Natural Healing for Depression: Solutions from the World’s Great Health Traditions and Practitioners (Putnam Perigee, 1999), and You Don’t Have to Die: Unraveling the AIDS Myth, a book on natural medicine and AIDS. Strohecker is currently editor of Healthy Update, an electronic newsletter of HealthWorld Online, and is an associate editor of totalhealth magazine.
Strohecker serves on the advisory board for the Academy for Guided Imagery and the Presidential Advisory Board of Bastyr University, the U.S.’s first fully-accredited university of natural medicine. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of American University of Complementary Medicine and the Natural Woman Institute, and has developed a global network of relationships with leaders in the field of natural medicine.
