Citrus aurantium is a natural stimulant
that is derived from the essential oils
of the bitter Seville orange. This herb
has been used for thousands of years to
improve circulation and liver function and
treat indigestion.
Increased resting metabolic rate means more fat calories burned. The fat-burning effect results
from a group of compounds in the herb called adrenergic amines (organic compounds that are able to
release or behave like adrenaline or noradrenaline),
with the most effective one for
fat loss being synephrine. Most extracts
sold today are standardized for four or six
percent synephrine. In addition to the
flavonoids found in Citrus aurantium, this
herb has the ability to produce an energizing
and fat-burning effect on the body
by activating a specific group of cell receptors
known as beta-3 receptors. These
receptors increase the rate at which fat is
released from both fat and muscle cells
(lipolysis) and increase the resting metabolic
rate (thermogenesis). You may even
feel this herbal extract working, as your
body will be generating heat.
Citrus aurantium, unlike the popular
fat-burning stimulant ephedra, does not
raise pulse rate or blood pressure. The recommended
dose of standardized Citrus
aurantium six percent synephrine extract is
325 mg per day, taken in divided doses
about a half hour before each meal or
shake.
