Hydroxycitric Acid PDF Print E-mail

A fruit from India called Garcinia cambogia contains an important fat-burning chemical called hydroxycitric acid or HCA for short. While research has shown that HCA prevents the conversion of carbohydrates into fat, a more important function of this incredible nutrient is its ability to help increase the special fat releasing enzyme called carnitine palmitoyl transferase (CPT). The enzyme that converts excess glucose into fat is called ATP-citrate lyase. HCA inhibits this enzyme from making more fat and in the process slows down another enzyme called malonyl-COA. The result is an increase in the levels of CPT (the fat-releasing enzyme).

Another effect of HCA is that it inhibits glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, which helps to keep insulin in check. HCA has been on the market for a few years now. In the past the HCA was bound to a calcium salt but this may not have allowed for good absorption. Recently a new HCA salt with magnesium (Mg) has come on the market. By adding Mg-HCA to your supplement program you will greatly increased the amount of CPT, which will allow for an increase in fat-burning potential. I suggest a dose of 500 mg to two grams of Mg-HCA derived from Garcinia cambogia, taken in divided doses twice daily, as a very important addition to your fat-burning army.
